I Love Spring

I love springtime. My favorite is when I can plant flowers. Abby is my faithful assistant. She even has her own plastic hand shovel and rake.
Abby's favorite thing to do was not to dig in the dirt like I thought, but rather to get shovelfuls of potting soil and put them into my pots. She was a great help there. We also saw several bugs and worms. Abby was very curious about our little ant pile that we dug up.
After awhile, she got bored of the flower thing so she ventured into the closet and starting pulling out hats, gloves and boots. Oh boy. It wasn't that cold outside. Yes a tad windy, but not enough to warrant hats and gloves!
And of course this is what Kaden was doing while I was planting. He had a grand time playing outside and exploring the grass (and trying to eat it too.) He also got bored of the flower thing and starting wailing. Lucky for me, Ryan was home on vacation due to Good Friday so he played with the little guy until I was able to get finished.
I just hope that all my flowers don't die this year. I love to garden and have a nice yard, but I'm not a great gardener so my grass still has weeds and some of my flowers die. I'm going to be really good at watering this year. I figured out that I have to water some areas by hand because the sprinklers just don't hit there. Lesson learned from last year. I'm going out to admire my work. Is that just me, or do other people do that too? After I've done something like that, I keep checking it out. Just a weird little quirk about me, I guess.

Camera Happy

I've decided to just throw this out there. What kinds of cameras do you, my blog followers use? I'm finding that my current camera (no offense Sarah) just doesn't have that clean, crisp picture that I'm after. My birthday is coming up next month and I might be able to spring for a new camera. What's good? Now, be reasonable. I can't afford the best of the best here...any suggestions?

Girl Hair

I've decided that I'm sort of glad that I only have one girl. I mean, I love my girl and she is tons of fun to dress and buy clothes for... but oh the hair! I'm not a hair person. I've had the same hair style for like 20 years. I don't change it. It either is down, or in a pony tail. I don't know how to do all the fun and cute things. I don't even know how to french braid. Poor Abby. She gets the brunt of my hair style failings. Today, for the first time ever, I tried a basic braid. I think it turned out very well....you know, for the first time and all. I'm sure it'll fall out in about 2 hours, but it was cute while it lasted.

Clue

For family night the boys decided that they wanted to play clue. So we get it down, set it up and begin playing. As we near the end, Josh makes the final accusation. "I think it was done in the conservatory with the rope and Professor Plum. " Nobody has any of the cards so with a big grin on his face he reaches for the secret folder to pull out the cards. (Ryan had made a big deal about how he wasn't going to let the kids win.) His facial expressions turns to utter disappointment and confusion as the cards in the secret folder are not the conservatory or the rope. What happened? Just then Ethan smiles and yells "just kidding" and shows us all of the cards he had in his hand...the conservatory and rope along with a few others. I guess there is a reason why the box says for ages 8+. What a little trickster.

Star Fighter

Josh LOVES cub scouts. Ever since I was den leader and he was 7, he couldn't wait until he turned 8 so he could be a real member of the den. Over the last few months Ryan and Josh have been working on his car. They got online and picked out a shape for the car, then went to work sawing, shaping and sanding. It was a lot of fun to watch him get so excited about his car. He wanted to show it off to all of his friends! He named his car Star Fighter.

Last night was our Pinewood Derby. We had the talk about winning and losing and we crossed our fingers and started the race. He got really excited when his car won his first race. He won a few more races then ended up winning third place. I was really happy that he did so well. What a fun activity for the cub scouts.
Josh with his trophy. He wouldn't put it down all the rest of that night. He's very proud! Great job Josh!

I Know I Have a Baby When...

*I shower at nap time. Sometimes this isn't accomplished until noon or even later.

* I have snot and spit up on my shoulder and I sometimes go out in public that way.

* I start falling asleep at 8:30 while reading, watching a movie/TV, or sitting at the computer.

* crying just sort of blends into the background noise. I have learned to ignore it when I have to.

* a good night's sleep is just laughable.

* I spend more time in the hallway at church than I do in class.

* I find myself crawling around on my hands and knees searching for a lost binky.

* I talk in a high pitched, silly voice just to get some smiles, giggles and coos.

* I never get tired of watching them sleep.

A little Abby Quirk

I thought that I would jot this down so that I would remember. I think it's funny. Abby calls knives "sharks." Are you wondering where that even came from...it's not even close to knife! Well I tell her that knives are sharp and we shouldn't play with them. Sharp becomes shark. Some people eat with chop sticks, we eat with sharks. How about you?
