The snowball effect

So here is the thing.  Ryan is home a little more now that basketball season is over.  Yippee right?  And because he is home he gets to see how many times I have to plunge the dumb toilet, because it doesn't flush well and I plunge a lot.  We have a toilet and tile that we bought like 6 months ago when we first moved in.  Oh, that install never happened.  So frustrated I was with the toilet that I told Ryan that I would settle for just the new toilet install and the tile could wait.

Being the great hubby he was, he pulled out the old toilet today.  I didn't even know he was doing it.  I was ecstatic to say the least.  Then we pulled out the new one.  This is where the snowball effect comes in.  So, I noticed the new toilet is an elongated bowl.  I didn't think we meant to buy an elongated bowl.  Just a round one please. Oops. Couldn't really take it back, after all it has been 6 months and who knows where I put the receipt after that long.  So we keep the bowl.  But now the carpet has to be cut to fit the new bowl size.  But in order to cut the carpet, there are tack strips that have to come off and cutting carpet isn't the easiest thing in the world.  So we decide to just rip out the whole thing.  But then we notice that they plywood around the toilet is like so rotted out that we probably have to replace that too.  Does it never end folks?  And since the carpet is out, I better paint the cabinet and the walls too.  I wasn't over my resting period from my last project.  Oh well.  It's happening!
Any bets on how long we will be without a toilet in the guest bathroom?  Oh and another thing.  Now we have a green toilet sitting in the garage.  What are we going to do with that thing?  I told Ryan that we should just add it to the flower beds and plant flowers in the bowl.  He wasn't very amused.  I thought it was funny!
Speaking of projects.  I have a doozy in Abby's room. When she goes to time out she peels the wall paper off the walls.  I guess it's ugly enough that I need to do something about it.  Darn.  I hate removing wall paper....

A new entry

I'm guilty.  I've been spending a bit of time watching HGTV and browsing pinterest lately, now that I have a house of my own that I can paint and fix up.   I've always love wainscoting and found this board and batten type that I love.  I had grand ideas for months now but was always a little nervous to get started because let's be honest here: my hubby doesn't have the time to help.  (We still have a toilet and tile that we bought 6 months ago sitting in the garage because we haven't had the time to install it.)  So when my sister did this in her laundry room and said that it wasn't too hard, I got excited again.  The best part is:  I did it all by myself.  Miter saw, air compressor, nail gun, the whole bit!!!  I'm not proud or anything. :)

Here are a few before shots.  If you look close you can see that yes, that is wall paper on the wall.  My house is covered with the stuff.

AFTER
I put up new casings around the doors and added crown molding to the top.  Pretty spiffy huh?  Let me tell you how frustrated I was with the dumb crown molding.  But once I found this little cheat sheet, I was good to go!  Don't mock!  This little paper saved me from having to ask Ryan for help.
Doesn't it look pretty?  I'm super giddy.  I just have to smile.  I love it when I attempt something and it turns out good.
I'm on a role, maybe I'll go and install that stupid toilet myself since the old one doesn't flush right since Abby and Kaden flushed a toothbrush down there.  I'm tired of plunging 5 times a day.  You think I kid...oh no, I do not.  I literally run down the hall when the kids yell, "Mom the toilet's overflowing."  You would run too if you had carpet in the bathroom.  True Story.
